What is CASA ?

CASA is a not-for-profit organization serving the community. CASA Volunteers are Court Appointed Special Advocates appointed by a Judge to speak on behalf of children who come under the jurisdiction of the court because of child abuse or neglect.

All children have a right to a safe home with loving people to care for them. However, each year in Michigan, thousands of children are abused, neglected, or abandoned by their families. Over 15,000 children are removed from their homes and placed in foster care, relative care, or an institution.

 CASA of Menominee County

The mission of CASA OF MENOMINEE COUNTY is to provide quality volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children involved with family court to assure each child a safe, permanent, and nurturing home.

Advocate Spotlight

November's Advocate of the Month is Shane DeCamp. Shane has been volunteering with CASA of Menominee County since 2014. Here's what Shane has to say about why he became a CASA:
"I am from a mentally abusive home. I know how much it can impact a person for the rest of their life. If I had someone who could of helped me through it when I was a kid, maybe it wouldn’t of had such a bad impact on me. I want to try to make a difference through CASA."
THANK YOU Shane for your hard work and dedication to our county's children!

Families Served in 2019

Menominee CASA advocates served 34 children. We saw 8 new kids this past year with 6 new petitions. 13 cases closed involving 27 kids and 2 were reopened.
